Dining changes coming to Animal Kingdom in August

Jul 25th 2013 at 7:05

From August 4th, 2013 Animal Kingdom will see a number of changes to dining.

The first big change is that the Food and Beverage Kiosks around the park (e.g Dino Diner, Beastly Kiosk, Isle of Java, Mr. Kamal's, etc) will no longer be selling any item not considered a snack. So things like Hot Dogs, Sandwiches and Turkey Legs will no longer be offered there. Instead they can be purchased from a Quick Service Restaurant, such as the Flame Tree Barbecue on Discovery Island.

Disney have not provided a reason for this change, however it may somehow tie in to the second major change:

Also from August 4th, 2013, a new station will be added to Discovery Island called 'Gardens Kiosk'. It will be located next to the Adventurers Outpost, and will sell pre-packed snacks for guests with food allergies and intolerances. Information about the meals around the park will be provided here, so that guests with special dietary requirements can be sure they can find something to eat.

This is the first time Disney have gone to such lengths to educate and inform people about the food on offer, and at the same time provide a one-stop location to get special foods. It's unknown if this is a permanent change, or a trial run with the hope to roll it out across all parks.

We'll keep a close eye on how this goes, and provide any more information we can as its released.
