Splash Mountain annual refurbishment extended

Disney have significantly extended the Splash Mountain refurbishment that we reported would take place in January 2014.

The previous schedule provided by Disney showed the dates as being January 6 to January 31, 2014. However an updated schedule now shows the reopening date as March 22, 2014. This news comes as a surprise, as Splash Mountain underwent a major refurbishment at the beginning of 2013, for a similar length of time. 

The reason for the extension has not been confirmed, however the obvious reason would be due to more serious problems with the attraction, that will need more time to repair. The refurbishment in 2013 was to address structural problems, after a section of concrete reportedly fell from the roof of the attraction whilst it was open. Splash Mountain tends to wear very quickly when compared to some other attractions, due to it being one of the most popular rides in Walt Disney World.
