Oct 7th 2013 at 8:33

Later this month Downtown Disney will welcome 2,000 athletes, who will compete in the Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival.

The festival takes place from October 18-19, 2013. Prior to the event there will be practice sessions in the Village Lake.

During the event and the practice sessions there will be no watercrafts running to or from Saratoga Springs, Old Key West or the Treehouse Villas. Here's the full closure dates:

  • October 9 - No waterboat service from 4:15pm to 6:45pm
  • October 10 to 17 - No waterboat service from 10:00am to 11:00am and 3:15pm to 6:45pm
  • October 18 - No waterboat service 10:00am to 11:00am and 3:15pm onwards
  • October 19 - No waterboat service throughout the day

There will however still be a waterboat service running from the Downtown Disney Marketplace to Disney's Port Orleans, except on October 19 where no waterboat services will operate at all.

Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports team provided the following video from last years event. If you're interested in watching the Dragon Boat Festival you can get a great view from virtually anywhere along Downtown Disney's waterline, as well as from Saratoga Springs.
