Monorail to close during quiet periods for maintenance in early 2014

Dec 18th 2013 at 11:29

From January 21, 204 to the end of March 2014, the monorail system will be closing early during select quiet periods for maintenance.

The Magic Kingdom Resort and Express Beams will be closed on weekdays from 11:30am to 7:00pm, allowing maintenance to be completed on both the monorail cars, and the actual track. The Epcot beam will not be affected by these closures.

Disney will be using additional water crafts and bus services during the maintenance to reduce the impact on guests.

The operation of the monorail system has come under much scrutiny from regular visitors, who believe that the maintenance of the monorail has been neglected for some time. Many of the current monorail trains are over 24 years old, and are the oldest monorail fleet that Disney has ever had. Disney have been working on automation upgrades to the monorail system, however have not yet officially announced if this will involve a conversion of the current monorail cars, or new automatic ones being brought into service.
