Creature Comforts shop at Disney's Animal Kingdom to become a quick-service restaurant

Jan 21st 2014 at 8:26

Disney have notified cast members that in January 2015, Creature Comforts will close and be turned into a new quick service restaurant.

Our cast member sources confirmed the news yesterday afternoon after it unofficially appeared in social media. Creature Comforts is a popular shop located on Discovery Island, and features a large selection of plush toys and Animal Kingdom merchandise.

Interestingly, Disney chose to directly inform many Animal Kingdom cast members, almost a year in advance of the closure. It's likely that an announcement from Disney will follow at some point in the coming months. It's speculated that this could pave the way for Animal Kingdom's first Starbucks location, which it is yet to get. The folks over at WDWMagic raised an interesting thought; that given the high traffic of people heading towards Africa (primarily for Kilimanjaro Safaris) that it would make an ideal location for a Starbucks to operate successfully.

There's also no word yet on what will become of the newly opened MyMagic+ service center inside Creature Comforts. This would presumably be relocated, or repositioned once the location gets converted next year.
