Expedition Everest construction work taking place - ride remains open

Jun 5th 2014 at 9:28

Somewhat out of the blue, Disney have started refurbishment and/or repairs to Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom, removing part of the ride's effects and structure.

A crane was installed on-site which was used to remove the broken-track segment at the top of the mountain. Construction workers have also been seen around the attraction.

No announcement was provided by Disney for this, suggesting essential/emergency work was needed to correct a problem. Initially the thought was that this could finally be work towards correcting the Yeti, which has been broken since the first year of the ride opening. Whilst it is possible for the Yeti to be repaired, it would require significant disruption, and almost certainly the closure of the ride for a lengthily period of time. Our sources however indicated that the work is not to correct the Yeti animation, and is instead structure related.

With the broken track segment removed, the ride provides a great view across the Walt Disney World property skyline. The folks over at Attractions Magazine have posted a short video clip showing the top of the ride with the segment removed, which you can check out below.
