Typhoon Lagoon closing for an unexpected refurbishment next week
May 11th 2013 at 8:05In an unexpected move, Disney announced that Typhoon Lagoon will be closing for a short refurbishment starting next week. Usually the water parks close for an annual refurbishment in the off season.
The park will be closed from May 12 to May 16, reopening on May 17 2013. Blizzard Beach will remain open as usual during the work at Typhoon Lagoon.
Speculation surrounding the reason for the closure suggests its for a service of the pumps used in the wavepool. The service of these requires a crane on-site, which would generally cause significant impact on the park if it was to remain open.
