Typhoon Lagoon Overview

Typhoon Lagoon is one of two Disney Water parks and is home to the world’s largest outdoor wave pool. Opened on June 1st 1989 the park’s theme is the “Disney Legend” of a typhoon that wreaked havoc on a pristine tropical paradise. Around the park you’ll notice boats, fishing gear, surfboards strewn about where the storm flung them.

The park’s centerpiece, “Miss Tilly” is a shrimp boat impaled on the top of “Mount Mayday” that erupts a 50-foot geyser of water every 30 minutes. Typhoon Lagoon holds the record for most visited water park, when in 2008 it admitted approximately 2.06 million visitors.

The park closes for a period of about 2 months each year. This gives enough time to refurbish the park. During its closed period Disney’s other water park, Blizzard Beach remains open.

The park boasts over 20 attractions, including Humunga Kowabunga – a triple speed slide and Crush ‘n’ Gusher, a high-speed water coaster.
