In another sign that Disney's Hollywood Studios is due a massive makeover, the Studio Backlot Tour will be closing permanently later this month.
Information about why the long-running attraction is closing is pretty much nonexistant. Disney have been very quiet about the very noticeable lack of updates to Hollywood Studios, and the closure of another attraction turns the park into less of a 'day park' and more of a 'morning park'.
The Backlot Tour was already a shadow of it's former self. The Lights! Camera! Action! stunt show forced a significant part of the tour to be removed several years ago, and since then it's felt like it's been on life support.
There's been a huge number of rumors circulating for years as to what Disney may eventually do to fix the failing park. The strongest indications seem to indicate an expansion to the Pixar section of the park, bringing in Cars Land as well. However there are also strong indications of the Star Wars themed area being expanded.
Cast members who work at the park have been told that the Studio Backlot Tour is closing "to make way for something new in the future".
Interestingly the Honey I Shrunk The Kids Movie Set Adventure playground has no opening hours listed after October 11, 2014. Given how close it is to the Backlot Tour, it could indicate that the entire area will be used for a massive expansion to the park.
We'll keep our eyes and ears open and report back once we know what's going on!
