Echo Lake is a small oval shaped lagoon. It was designed to be part of a hidden Mickey, and formed one of his ears. Sadly the rest of that hidden Mickey is long gone. Echo Lake is home to several fun attractions; Star Tours, an interactive 3D motion simulator ride which underwent a huge upgrade and relaunch in 2011, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, which re-enacts various scenes from Raders of the Lost Ark and finally, The American Idol Experience, where park guests can audition and be voted on by other park members in the audience.
Echo Lake has three restaurants; Hollywood and Vine, offering a casual family buffer, 50’s Prime Time Café, offering a themed 50’s style home cooked meal served by ‘Mom’ and the Backlot Express, offering a range of standard Disney counter service foods such as burgers, fries, hot dogs, sandwiches and salads.
As you pass through Echo Lake you’ll also see the Hall of Fame Plaza, which has a display of busts of past and present television and movie icons such as Oprah Winfrey and Walt Disney himself.
Sounds Dangerous staring Drew Cary is also located in Echo Lake, however has been officially announced as closing for good in May 2012. Prior to this it had only been open seasonally, or when the park was very busy due to its very low popularity. It has been rumored that it will be replaced with an extended version of the existing ‘Jedi Training Academy’ show, currently located next to Star Tours.
