Oct 15th 2013 at 8:50

Disney's new "Glow with the Show" ears hats go on sale today, and are designed to light up the top of your hat in sync with whatever parade or show you may be watching at a Disney Park.

The new 'ear hats' cost $25 each and will start selling for tonights performance of Fantasmic! at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Hats will be sold at the following locations:

  • Beverly Sunset
  • Fantasmic! Cart
  • Head to Toe
  • Mickey's of Hollywood
  • Once Upon a Time
  • Theater of the Star cart

The hats will next b used at the Magic Kingdom, starting on October 19, 2013 for both Wishes and Celebrate the Magic. Hats will be sold at the following locations:

  • Chapeau
  • Emporium
  • Glow with the Show Carts (roaming Main Street)
  • Tip Board Cart (roaming Main Street)

During performances the 'ear hats' receive commands wirelessly and "Show Mode" is enabled. If your hat is in close proximity to a show it'll enter "Show Mode" automatically. It is even possible to have them change color depending on which characters or floats are going past you at the time. This could make for a great addition to the Main Street Electrical Parade at a later date.

When you're not at a show the hats enter "Idle Mode" where they randomly change color until turned off. One clever feature is "Ear-to-Ear Mode" - if you walk past someone else wearing a Glow with the Show hat, the two hats will sync up and show the same patterns.

There are a number of exciting possibilities for something as simple as a hat, it'll be interesting to see just how far Disney can take this new level of interaction in the future.
