Disney to start scanning MagicBands during Extra Magic Hours

Nov 18th 2013 at 11:42

Disney are abot to roll out another update to its ambitious and expensive MyMagic+ 'NextGen' program. From Sunday November 17, 2013 cast members will be using handheld devices to scan guests MagicBands, presumably to ensure that they are eligible to be inside the park during Extra Magic Hours.

The cast members will be stationed outside of the park entrance, and will ask guests to scan their MagicBands to verify they are a resort guest. Resort guests without a magic band will instead have to use their Key to the World card.

This raises a possible major flaw with the new system - surely the ticket turnstiles would be able to tell if a MagicBand was not eligible for entry during Extra Magic Hours, otherwise there would be no need for cast members doing these manual checks.
