The operating hours for the Walt Disney World Monorail service will be adjusted from June 22 to accommodate maintenance work that will see the monorail system automated, improving the service.
Work has been ongoing for several months now, and new cabling and control equipment has slowly been installed along the monorail beams and at stations. This latest set of works will however impact the operating hours of the monorail.
Starting on June 22, 2014 the monorail will run at the following reduced hours:
Disney will be laying on additional busses and watercraft for guests staying at affected resorts.
Once the new automation system is completed, Disney will have significantly more control over the monorail trains and allow for a greater number of monorail cars to safely travel along the track. It also significantly increases safety, ensuring something like the fatal crash of two monorail vehicles a few years ago can not happen again.
It's not yet known how long the altered hours will be in effect for, or when the new automation system will be up and running.
