Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend 2014 registration opens, and the 10k sells out on the first day.

Registration for the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend opened last week, and the 10k marathon sold out on its first day!

The 2014 Marathon Weekend will be expanding with a new race and promises improvements for runners across the entire weekend of events. The new introduction is the 10K run, a 6.2 mile timed race that takes part on the Friday at Epcot, and winds through the scenic World Showcase. 

Other improvements announced, designed to improve the race experience for runners will include:

• Reduced number of runners per event, to allow more space on each course.
• Asking runners to provide a proof of time (where possible) so that runDisney can place runners of the same pace in the same corral.
• Adding additional corrals, each with fewer people to spread runners out across the course.
• Keeping the 20th anniversary course that was added last year.
• Runners will be offered a woman's cut tech shirt (in addition to men's cut tech shirts) for the 10K Marathon, Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Dopey Challenge and Goofy Challenge.

At the time of writing this, space is running out quickly for all events, with the 10K and Family Fun Run (5K) both sold out, in addition to the Runner's World Challenge. Dopy Challenge is expected to sell out later today.
