Disney officially confirm 'Festival of the Lion King' moving to Africa

Jul 30th 2013 at 11:21

The popular Lion King show, currently in Animal Kingdom's "Camp Minnie Mickey" will be moving to a new theater currently being constructed in the Africa area of the park.

We've known about this for some time, as it is needed so that work can commence on the delayed "AvatarLand" project, which is rumored to be going where Camp Minnie Mickey is currently located. By moving Festival of the Lion King, it will mean that there are no significant attractions in the area, allowing the land to be closed.

Disney confirmed the news on their blog, and confirmed that the new location will be ready some time in 2014:

Today, I’m excited to tell you "Festival of the Lion King" will soon be moving to an all-new theater, bringing the "tribal celebration" home fittingly to the Africa section of the park, where Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests will be able to continue enjoying the show for years to come.

The new “Festival of the Lion King” theater is set to open in 2014.
