Pirates of the Caribbean re-opened yesterday, and one of the most noticeable changes during its refurbishment was new ride vehicles.
The new boats are very similar to the old ones, with a few minor changes. The handle bars in front of each seat are now hard plastic instead of covered foam (with the exception of the first row). The boats are now made from a stronger but lighter carbon fiber material. When riding it does feel like you are going slightly faster now, and the boats seem to handle the corners with fewer bumps into the guide bars under the water. The seats themselves are also hard plastic, and share a similar design to the boats used on "it's a small world" and Epcot's "Living With The Land".
The previous boats had been in use for years and were showing their age. These new boats should last for at least the next decade of the ride's operation.
