New Phone Charging Service starts at the Magic Kingdom this Friday

Apr 21st 2014 at 8:37

The Magic Kingdom is about to trial a new free mobile phone charging station for all guests.

The new mobile charging station will consist of a number of small 'lockers' where your phone will be kept during charging. Here's a few key point/features of these new charging stations:

  • Each station requires you to swipe a credit card. You aren't charged, it's used more as a key to ensure only you can get to your phone.
  • The stations support a variety of popular mobile phones, including iPhones (presumably both those with the older Dock Connector, and those with a Lightning Connector), Android devices and Blackberrys.
  • When you approach the kiosk, you select your phone make and model using a touchscreen on the front of the kiosk.
  • When your phone has finished charging, the light on the front of the small locker changes to green.
  • Each locker is big enough only for a mobile phone. Tablets wont fit into them.

Initially the kiosks are to be located at:

  • Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe (near the Fantasyland Entrance)
  • Tomorrowland Light & Power Company, at the Space Mountain Shop

The test is expected to run through the busy summer period. It's not yet known if or when any additional kiosks will be added, however assuming tests go well, we anticipate a number of these handy stations being installed around all the parks as they are especially useful now that the new FastPass+ and MyMagic+ systems are in full operation.
